Portal Automation Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Portal Automation Engineer to join the client’s engineering team and accelerate automation delivery across multiple web portals.
This is a brownfield environment - you’ll be working with existing automation scripts, primarily written in Python (Django backend) with Selenium and Playwright. The key objective is to reduce a significant automation backlog efficiently and sustainably.
You will be embedded directly with the client’s team and expected to operate with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.
Requirements
- Strong Python experience (primary language; Django backend + automation scripts)
- Hands-on experience with Playwright (strongly preferred) or Selenium
- Experience working in brownfield/legacy codebases
- Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.)
- Ability to work semi-autonomously within a client-embedded team
- Strong debugging and refactoring skills
- Senior-level engineering mindset and ownership
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with Angular (frontend context)
- Experience with AWS (containers, basic infrastructure)
- Background in Healthcare IT or RPA
- Experience with headless browser patterns, web scraping, and bot detection workarounds
Responsibilities
- Analyse, refactor, and improve existing browser automation scripts
- Develop new automation solutions using Python and Playwright (preferred) or Selenium
- Work within a Django-based backend environment
- Propose better architectural or automation approaches when legacy implementations are inefficient
- Apply AI-assisted development practices (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.) to accelerate delivery
- Ensure automation scripts are stable, scalable, and maintainable
- Collaborate closely with the client’s LA-based engineering team
- Run and maintain automation scripts within AWS containerised environments
